The official portrait of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, former Governor General of Canada, is unveiled by Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall on Thursday, September 27, 2012.
“The landscape that inspires me in our country, that is breathtaking and of infinite beauty, is the human landscape,” Jean remarked to the audience of diplomats, politicians, artists and friends, “the magnificent landscape of women and men of heart and courage. And that is what wonderful and profound Canadian artist Karen Bailey and I talked about for this official portrait. “I could not see myself standing alone on the canvas,” she added, “simply because I never stood nor walked alone on this wonderful journey across our country.”
